Located just a short drive from Oakham, Stamford, and Peterborough, Exton Park is ideal for those looking to explore Rutland’s natural beauty. The estate offers extensive walking and cycling routes, including 14 miles of footpaths and bridleways, as well as nearby Rutland Water—one of Europe’s largest artificial lakes. Visitors can enjoy a range of outdoor activities, from water sports to fishing, and take in breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside.

For those looking to explore the area, Oakham, a charming medieval town just 10 minutes away, is full of history and attractions. What’s Included with Lantern & Larks Tents?

Each tent accommodates up to six people, with three bedrooms: one king-size room, one twin room, and one bunk bed room. Travel cots can be added to any bedroom (available for hire).

Each tent includes:

  • Log-burning stove and double gas hob
  • Beds made up on arrival, plus towels
  • Fully equipped kitchen area
  • Sleeps up to 6 in comfort
  • Tranquillity and exclusivity
Meat smoking as it is cooked on a barbecue.

Fire Pit/BBQ/Wood
Fire pits are included with every booking, ideal for BBQs. Unlimited wood is provided for the duration of your stay. Please note, fires are only permitted in the fire pits. Each tent also has a log burner for heating and cooking.

Rutland Watersports

Rutland Watersports Centre, located on the shore at Whitwell, offers a variety of activities such as sailing, canoeing, kayaking, powerboating, and windsurfing for all ages and abilities, as well as children's activity days. The centre also features a shop stocked with clothing, accessories, and equipment, and provides hire and tuition for those who need it.

Ospreys

The Reservoir is a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest and a globally important RAMSAR wetland. At the Lyndon Visitor Centre, you can explore the "Weather and Wildlife" exhibition and watch live osprey nest feeds during the season. Thanks to the Rutland Osprey Project, which began nearly 20 years ago, Rutland is now home to breeding ospreys for the first time in 150 years. The area is a popular stop for ospreys on their migratory journey, and the Visitor Centre offers in-depth information about these remarkable birds. If you're lucky, you might even spot them at the lake at Exton.

Barnsdale Gardens is perfect for all the family. Spread across an eight-acre site, there are 39 individual gardens, each with their own unique theme and style. Wander through the various zones, taking in a beautiful array of colours and scents. Visit the nursery to buy your favourite plants, then round off the day with a visit to the tea room to enjoy fresh, seasonal produce and a warm cuppa.

Tolethorpe Hall

Tolethorpe Hall, home to the Stamford Shakespeare Company, dates back to the 11th century and stands in beautiful gardens. There is typically a three-month summer season of plays, including two by Shakespeare and one by another playwright.

The Falconry and Owl Centre houses a fascinating collection of birds of prey from around the world, set within a natural wilderness.
